New Hires/Staff Updates:

  • The Steward & Sustain Department has announced two hires:
     
    • Rachel Makarowski will begin as ​the ​special collections librarian on May 1. Makarowski​ earned a bachelor's ​degree ​from the University of Virginia and a master's​ degree​ in library science from the University of Indiana​,​ Bloomington. ​Her experience includes working at the Rare Book School in Charlottesville, Virginia, from 2014-2017. ​She was most recently an education and outreach intern at Indiana University​'s​ Lilly Library, where she also served as assistant to the head of public services. 
       
    • Alia Wegner​ begins May 14th as the new ​digital collections librarian​.​ She ​received a bachelor's degree from Clemson University, a ​m​aster's degree​ in book history and material culture from the University of Edinburgh (UK), and a ​master's degree ​in ​Information from ​​Florida State University. She comes to Miami from the University of Cincinnati, where she has been serving as a graduate student intern in the Archives and Rare Books Library. She worked from 2008-2014 in libraries at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, including as a rare book collection assistant in the Louis Round Wilson Special Collections Library.
       
  • Gideon Gyebi, a former University Libraries student worker and the 2018 Outstanding Student Employee of the Year, has accepted a position as library technician in King Library and begins April 16. He is a 2017 Miami University graduate.
     
  • Dean & University Librarian Jerome Conley, recently recognized for his 25 years of service to Miami University, will be be presented the Miami University Alumni Association's Honorary Alumni Award during the Annual Advancement Awards Banquet, Thursday, May 3, at the Armstrong Student Center Pavilion. Established in 1958, Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Miami University Alumni Association is awarded to those individuals who serve Miami and the Alumni Association as loyally as alumni.
