You may have already encountered Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, a hip hop musical based on the life of Alexander Hamilton and his rival, Aaron Burr. (If you haven't heard it, we have the Grammy-winning CD available for checkout. You could also take a trip to New York to see the show live on Broadway, but resale tickets are selling for over $1,000 per seat. Yikes!) One interesting element of the work is how Miranda's wide-ranging knowledge of both rap and Broadway history shaped the sound and lyrics. For this playlist, Amos Music Library shares a mix of musicals and classic hip hop tracks that seem to have inspired Hamilton, as well as some selections from Miranda's earlier works. Some tracks are directly quoted in Hamilton; see if you can spot them!
Got milk? Look it up, kids.
And, in case you missed it: Adele's 25 won the 2015 Album poll. The CD will soon be added to the collection. Also, a number of you wrote in Kendrick Lamar; luckily, we already have To Pimp a Butterfly in the collection, as well as his 2013 release Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City and his contribution to Flying Lotus' You're Dead! Come to Amos to check them out.
