Libraries Strategic Plan Update
Catalyst, Miami University Libraries’ strategic plan, launched in January after a period of planning over the fall semester. The Libraries have adopted a yearly approach to strategic planning, with three long-term goals and actionable annual initiatives to drive real change. This year, workgroups are dedicated to three strategic initiatives to support the goals. To learn more about our official launch,

On February 2, we held this year’s first business review. During this meeting, all staff actively involved in the strategic plan met to share progress, provide important updates, and discuss the path that lies ahead. I’d like to provide you with updates on what was shared during this time together.
Goals and Initiatives
This year’s iteration of the strategic plan has one initiative aligned with each of the Libraries’ three goals.
- Develop talent, resources, and experiences to facilitate an inclusive community.
- Professional Development Initiative: Create a sustainable, functioning resource guide relating to professional development with balanced information for Classified Staff, Unclassified Staff, and Librarians.
- Transform the Libraries’ environment and user-centered experience to anticipate evolving modes of learning.
- Virtual Spaces and Services Initiative: Promote existing virtual services and develop a long-term strategy to identify new services that would best suit our community of students, faculty, and staff.
- Forge meaningful partnerships that foster affordability, ensure relevancy, and cultivate lifelong connections.
- Meaningful Partnerships Initiative: Create a toolkit to support Libraries’ staff in fostering and maintaining healthy partnerships.
Timeline and Progress
This iteration of Catalyst will be implemented through June 2022. In January, each initiative workgroup submitted action plans that articulated the work they would accomplish over this semester. Currently, workgroups are putting the plans into action. Initiative workgroups meet regularly to move forward with action plan implementation. A monthly dashboard is maintained to demonstrate progress towards anticipated outcomes.
The next business review will be on April 14. During this meeting, we will review the progress for each of the initiative workgroups and begin to look ahead to the next academic year.
Peace,
Jerome
