Whether you're returning for another semester, or just beginning your Miami University journey, the University Libraries are here to connect you with whatever resources and guidance you'll need to succeed this fall and beyond.
We’ve made changes to our spaces and services to help keep everyone safe, and we’ve also developed some all-new services to give you more options and opportunities to access the Libraries’ materials and tools.
Before entering any library locations, please conduct a quick health self-assessment. If you feel ill, and especially if you’re experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, the best thing to do is stay home and contact your primary care provider or Miami’s Student Health Service.
Common symptoms of COVID-19 include1:
- Fever or chills
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Muscle or body aches
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
You’ll need to wear a face covering over your mouth and nose when inside any library this fall, as is university policy1.
People who cannot wear a facial covering due to medical or disability-related reasons should contact Human Resources, and students should contact the Miller Center for Student Disability Services at email@example.com and Student Disability Services (Regionals) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Face coverings are a simple and extremely effective way of protecting others from potential infection2. Even if you aren’t experiencing symptoms, you can still infect others with COVID-193. Face coverings are a key part of how we will protect one another this semester.
Physical distance and seating
To give people the ability to stay at least six feet apart, we’ve moved and reorganized furniture and seating.
Please do not move any chairs, tables, or other furniture.
Throughout the library, we’ve made spray bottles with disinfectant and paper towels available for you to use. We’re encouraging everyone to spray and wipe down their tables and chairs before and after use — just like you would clean exercise equipment at a gym.
Please do not attempt to clean or sanitize any library materials or equipment like books, printers, laptops, cameras, calculators, etc. When items are returned, we’re setting them aside for a minimum of three days before reintroducing them to circulation. Research indicates that after three days, SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, deteriorates and becomes inactive on surfaces including paper, plastic, and stainless steel.
- Because of this quarantine period, please note that items you’ve physically returned to the library may still show as checked out in your online account until library staff are able to handle and scan them back in. Don’t worry: you won’t be charged any overdue fees.
Library and custodial staff are also increasing cleaning throughout the day and after the buildings close.
